Personal Safety Tips
We encourage you to be aware of your surroundings, the people you encounter, and your personal property when you are on or off site. Here are some helpful and simple ways to improve your safety.
If You Live in NYU School of Engineering Dorms
- Have your ID with you at all times
- Keep your residence hall room locked
- Do not lend your keys or ID to anyone
- If you do bring valuables, store them in your personal room safe
- Have renters insurance
- Let people know where you are going
- Avoid being alone in isolated places such as the basement laundry room, deserted study lounges, etc
If You Live in the Surrounding Area:
- Have good locks on your doors and windows — and use them!
- Do not prop open doors. If someone is supposed to be in the building, they will have access.
- Do not hide extra keys in easily accessible places
- Do not let strangers into your home or apartment to use the telephone
- Have working lights at all entrances and turn them on after dark
- Let people know where you are going
When You Are Out
- Travel in groups, preferably with 3 or more people
- Don't carry a lot of money
- Be aware of your surroundings — don't wear headphones, read, talk on the phone, or do anything else that might distract you. If you observe anyone or anything suspicious, walk to where there are other people and call the police.
- Be careful when using outdoor ATMs at night or in unfamiliar locations
- Do not get in a car with someone who is sleepy or under the influence
- Refuse drinks from strangers
- Never become so intoxicated that you lose consciousness or awareness of your surroundings
- Avoid taking the train/bus at night alone
- When taking the subway, try to ride in the car with the conductor and avoid the last car
General Safety Tips
- Program emergency contact information into your cell phone under the listing "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) and carry an ICE identification card in your wallet or purse. This can assist first responders in contacting family and friends in the event of an emergency.
- Do not give out personal information to people you meet online
- Do not list personal contact info, such as your address, on publicly accessible websites

Managing Seasonal & Temperature Changes
Shoulder Season: Managing Seasonal & Temperature Changes
With the change of seasons comes a change in outdoor temperature. While our facilities team works hard to provide comfortable and consistent temperature throughout all our spaces, here are some tips and resources to stay comfortable:
- Keep windows closed in air-conditioned spaces
- Dress appropriately – Having an extra layer to add or remove while transitioning from indoor and outdoor spaces can help to alleviate feeling too cold or too hot.
- If you feel your space is outside of the anticipated temperature range of high-60’s to mid-70’s, please contact the FCM Client Services Center by phone at 212-998-1001, by email at contactcsc@nyu.edu, or by using their Online Work Request Form.

The loading dock operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Asset Management
The Asset Management Office is responsible for maintaining the University's capital equipment inventory. Capital Equipment refers to durable, self-sufficient movable property with a useful life of more than one year and a unit cost of $5,000.00 or more. Components with unit costs of $5,000.00 or more may be considered capital equipment if they are easily separable and can function apart from the main unit, regardless of University funding (i.e., sponsored).
* Any item purchased with University funds is owned by the University and is intended for University use only
* It is the University's policy that University owned items cannot be given or sold to employees or students regardless of condition.
The Asset Management website, www.nyu.edu/asset, offers quick access to a variety of information including: Asset Management policies, procedures, forms, who's who, frequently asked questions and more.
Service Alerts & Disruptions
Tandon Facilities and Operations periodically sends email notifications to keep the campus community informed about important service alerts and disruptions. These alerts may include fire drills, planned maintenance, emergency repairs, temporary closures, utility disruptions, or environmental conditions that could impact daily operations. Additionally, notifications may provide updates on recent incidents, safety measures, or facility improvements. The goal is to ensure transparency and keep everyone aware of changes affecting campus spaces. All official communications from Tandon Facilities and Operations will be sent from tsoe-ops@nyu.edu.
Moving and Relocation
As the University continues to make investments to enhance and modernize our facilities, it may necessitate the relocation of your department to, or from an alternate office space. Below you will find important information and key elements of the department relocation process, developed to ensure a seamless transition to the space and minimize disruption to operations.
Guidelines
Move Coordination
- Relocations are coordinated by the Tandon Campus Operations team. NYU will retain movers to implement relocation of contents. Tandon IT and NYU IT will coordinate and assist with the relocation of desk phones and desktop PC’s.
- Your department will select Move Captains to facilitate the relocation. Your Move Captains will work with the Campus Operations team to allocate departmental files and communicate the move schedule.
- The main point of contact for the overall move and coordination will be the Campus Operations Project Manager assigned to the move. Please be mindful to include the PM on all communications.
Relocation Process
Relocation Meetings
A series of meetings will be led by the Campus Operations Project Manager
Relocation Roster
A roster of occupants will be provided by the Department and Move Captain. This will be the main reference document for move logistics. It is important that all necessary details are provided and updated.
Floor Plans
Please tag all items and belongings to be moved by referencing the floor plans provided by Campus Operations.
Logistics Schedule
Post-Move Day 2 Process
Furniture & Belongings
- Furniture not coordinated with Campus Operations will not be moved. NYU will make every effort to repurpose furniture for future projects. Any exceptions will need to be approved by the Department chair and/or Tandon Office of the Dean.
