Will AI be the hero or villain of gaming?
AI's role in video game development is causing division within the industry. While some view generative AI as revolutionary for creating assets, code, environments, and enhancing player interactions, others remain skeptical about its current capabilities and implications. Associate Professor Julian Togelius notes that many major developers are secretly using generative AI for "asset creation, game testing and voice acting synthesis" without disclosing it publicly. Concerns include quality limitations, potential job losses, legal complexities, and the fear that games might lose their human-crafted essence.
